上帝的确是不能画出的,因为上帝要有绝对的神秘性,是超越人类认知的。这张牌在马赛时期被称作“天堂之火”或“闪电击中的高塔”,毫无疑问,上方的就是上帝。我觉得云层一方面象征塔之高,另一方面也是烘托上帝的神秘。(在马赛牌里没有云层,装饰性的可能比较大。)
不过,塔罗牌的设计中的确有很多偶然因素的,比如为什么闪电是斜的不是正的、小火焰为什么要画在两边,很可能是因为韦特之前的马赛塔罗都是这样画的,所以他也这么画了…(手动滑稽)从美学的角度来讲,从角落里落下的闪电能够突出空间感,而火焰只有一边的话不太符合力学…毕竟第一批塔罗设计者都是画师,所以考虑美学并没有什么不对咳咳……
这张牌在Papus看来(马赛塔罗)是物质化,联系摩羯宫,象征人类从精神世界(伊甸园)向物质世界的堕落。也可以视作是物质化的中间阶段——上帝圣灵视觉化(天谴)、亚当夏娃凡俗化(堕落)、宇宙法则物质化(可视世界)。(from《波西米亚塔罗》)
韦特他在《塔罗图钥》中写道(括号里非常粗略的主旨翻译):
It is said further that it contains the first allusion to a material building, but I do not conceive that the Tower is more or less material than the pillars which we have met with in three previous cases.
(很多人认为塔是第一个出现的物质建筑,但我认为前几张牌里出现的柱子已经是物质了。)
I see nothing to warrant Papus in supposing that it is literally the fall of Adam, but there is more in favour of his alternative--that it signifies the materialization of the spiritual word.

The bibliographer Christian imagines that it is the downfall of the mind, seeking to penetrate the mystery of God. I agree rather with Grand Orient that it is the ruin of the House of We, when evil has prevailed therein, and above all that it is the rending of a House of Doctrine.

I understand that the reference is, however, to a House of Falsehood. It illustrates also in the most comprehensive way the old truth that "except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it."

There is a sense in which the catastrophe is a reflection from the previous card, but not on the side of the symbolism which I have tried to indicate therein. It is more correctly a question of analogy; one is concerned with the fall into the material and animal state, while the other signifies destruction on the intellectual side.

小生建议对这张牌的符号学解读回归韦特本人,而韦特在他那个时代其实挺标新立异的,他不赞同天火是对人类傲慢的惩罚(巴别塔解读),而认为是人类因魔鬼的引诱而堕落,从而受到上帝惩罚。韦特更加强调人的物化。
在韦特的年代,物质是消极的、被动的,是与理智相对立的并且是属于魔鬼的。人类之所以为人类,正是因为其有理性。因此如果受到魔鬼的引用而耽于物质,就会受到上帝的惩罚,更不用提接近上帝的真理了。这个解读实际上与现代也是有很多不同的。
